Take A Stand

I really don’t care who you support in any election but I am very interested in how you see things. We get both the politics and politicians we deserve so you might as well learn something about them by knowing them and their differences to the rest of the pack.

In politics, I take a stand so people know where I am coming from on what matters.  I am attempting to teach my kids to do the same. Some of the people I have supported in the past have been successful, but more often than not, they haven’t. But that’s not the point now is it.

Like anyone else, I care about the results of any election and know if the process is fair, we’ll be able to kick the bums out later if we want to or need to.

I always participate in the process to the extent that I can see the pretty and the ugly parts of the very intricate process from primaries to general election. I watch debates, I read campaign coverage, I attend events and I sign up for stuff. Some of the stuff I sign up for includes the nitty gritty of retail politics: volunteering for either door knocking, working the phone bank or stuffing envelopes [I have a great techniques for shoving things into envelopes. Actually, it works for any kind of shoving!]

There is a big vote coming up next Tuesday and a package was delivered to me this past Friday in the final preparations for it. The process next Tuesday is brutal, actually primitive in modern political terms, and the package accounts nicely for getting the job done.

I couldn’t believe how excited my daughter was when I showed her the contents and explained GOTV: Get Out The Vote. She hadn’t realized that with an incredibly busy schedule, I’d managed to “get and stay involved” and that I selected a candidate to support.

I have been telling her for a very long time that 80% of life is just showing up. Of course she rolls her eyes when I say that. So now I have told her that the next 20% includes taking a stand. I tell her that people want to know where you stand and if you try to be all things to all people, well that is a foot on the slippery slope.

I won’t be around to participate next week as the whole country tunes in to see who will succeed and who will fail. It is an anti-climax anyway. All weekend long the results will be decided by the last 24 to 48 hours of preparation. Mitt’s team is very good. I have been interacting with them for a while now and they are the best I have seen this cycle so they will hold their own.

I am pretty straightforward in my priorities for the direction of the country and posted on it on this site in March.

My choice was inevitable. I think he will prevail and I think he will be the next President of the United States. Then he can do what needs to be done which is going to awful painful, but necessary. It seems to be working in other countries.
